As is presented above, in the middle of the cartoon, there stands a tree which stands for students whose branches referring to various abilities, such as the ability of operation, of performing and of organizing, are cut off by a saw named school education, but the branch symbolizing the ability of study is kept。
The drawing reminds its audience of a widespread phenomenon that in education of China, especially in basic education, educators’ much attention is stuck on students’ academic performance, in other word, grades。 Teachers require students spend almost all time and energy on remembering knowledges in text books to get a better result in exam, but seldom encourage them to develop other capacities, which overlooks the diverse personality of student, and hinders the all-round development of them。 We can easily figure out the factors underlying this phenomenon, and among them, the irrationality of existing examination system and the one-sidedness in talent selection system would be the primary ones。
As far as I am concerned, to settle this problem and promote teaching quality, there needs a comprehensive renovation in the educational system in which new educational concept and teaching methods should be introduced。 Only by this, rather than mechanical learning, can our education cultivate the new generation into talents who can realize their potentials and will meet the requirements of a harmonious society。
